Principal's Message

Dear Pugh Elementary Family!

My name is Jeanette Cortez, and I am honored to introduce myself as the new principal of Pugh Elementary School. As a proud Houston native and a product of HISD, I carry with me a deep appreciation for the transformative power of education. I am the eldest of six siblings, the daughter of a Mexican National father and a mother who was not afforded the opportunity to complete her schooling. I became the first and only member of my family to graduate from college and later earned my master’s degree from the University of Houston-Downtown. My journey is a testament to the incredible impact of teachers who go above and beyond. Their support inspired my path, and today, I am driven to do the same for the students, families, and staff I serve. I am a visionary and an innovator, committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and joyful environment where every child can thrive. This year, I will focus on listening, learning, and leading alongside you. I believe strong schools are built on trust, relationships, and speed. All built on collaboration and a shared commitment to excellence. Together, we will build on the great work already in place and accelerate outcomes for every student.
